The local shops are mostly not chains, which makes it a friendly, interesting place to go shopping or for coffee/cake. There is always something to do in the evening, too - as well as the cinema, pubs and restaurants on the triangle (the bus stops outside the house if the walk up the hill doesn't appeal), there is a nice Italian place on the corner of Anerley Rd near our house, and a small but excellently stocked bar called the Douglas Fir just down the hill. The park next door to our house is lovely and especially handy now that we have a toddler: the playground is about 30 seconds from our front door, and when she's tired of that there are always birds to feed by the lake. Crystal Palace Park is great too with its Victorian dinosaurs and maze. We are genuinely sad to be leaving the area and expect to be returning to visit often.
